Pregnancy is an amazing time as you get ready to welcome a new little person into your family. The calmbirth® childbirth education program has been designed to assist couples to prepare for labour and birth using a range of practical skills and techniques. The classes provide the opportunity for each women and her partner to deal with any fears or tension and develop a sense of confidence.
The calmbirth® course was developed by Australian midwife Peter Jackson and is based on the belief that pregnancy and birth are normal life events.
During the course you will gain an understanding of:
- How the body is designed for birth
- How fear and tension can affect the physiology of birth
- How to promote labour hormones
- The mechanics of labour
- The stages of labour
- The benefits of touch
- How birth can be a team effort
You will also develop practical skills including:
- How to use a range of relaxation, breathing and visualisation techniques
- How to support a birthing mum
- How to create a great environment for birth
During the course you will hear many positive birth stories from women and their partners who completed the calmbirth® course and used the techniques during birth.
The ideal time to do calmbirth® is from 20 to 36 weeks. Starting at this time allows you to gain the benefits of relaxation and bonding with your baby and practice the skills you will learn together.
Small group classes for up to five couples are held in North Hobart. Private classes are also available by arrangement.
